Our Yan Tan scarves take their inspiration from the ancient counting system shepherds use when gathering in their sheep: yan, tan, tethera, methera, pip……one, two, three, four, five. Variations of this counting system are alive and well wherever large flocks of sheep can be found. The numbering system goes up to twenty then the count starts again – it could be termed an abacus of wool!
These scarves are a celebration of all things northern. They are woven from our 100% bluefaced leicester wool which we source directly from farmers in the Yorkshire Dales. Our range of subtle colours is inspired by the landscape of this beautiful area. Our coloured yarns are mixed to great effect with our ‘dyed-in-the-fleece’ natural tones to create an elegantly simple yet contemporary design. The reversible two-tone pattern is highlighted by a change of colour at the borders and a brightly coloured fringe adds the perfect finishing touch.
