These jolly rainbow teatowels are woven in honour of our care workers. Like them, they will go the extra mile while brightening up your day. And, with your help, they will also raise additional funds for the charity I have chosen to support throughout 2020 — the Cumbria Community Foundation. You can read here about the great work this charity is doing to protect our communities from the devastating impact of Covid-19.
As we locked down to survive a deadly virus I sat at my loom one day thinking about what I could do to help. I started to empty baskets of cotton onto the studio floor and began to build a rainbow. From odds and ends stashed away and forgotten about I built my rainbow, blending all kinds of cotton yarn to make new colours until I had enough for a handful of teatowels. Then I wondered what to weave across my rainbow. I tried the same cottons but the end result was a bit flimsy. So I tweaked the design and used a fine linen for structure and a super-thick cotton for absorbency. Result!
