This bold herringbone tweed has been woven by Ali from Laura’s Loom Shetland ‘Alba’ singles wool, crossed with a deep brown Herdwick wool. The Herdwick sheep is Cumbria’s most iconic breed, much beloved by many for its sweet white face. As they age, the fleece of Herdwick sheep changes from deep-brown-almost-black to a sophisticated grey. Ali’s tweed makes the most of this black/white combination. She has woven a tweed that lends itself well to making bags and other accessories.
There are just a few metres of each colour available. This fabric is priced by the half-metre to reflect the tremendous amount of work that has gone into weaving it by hand on a traditional wooden handloom.
