Hand Woven Blankets
Having concentrated for the last decade or more on working with British textile mills to produce my blankets and scarves, I am now gradually returning to making individual one-off products by hand.
The items listed here have been woven either on my Harrisville and LeClerc traditional wooden floor-looms, or on my new Bonas-Griffith pedal loom — a modern carbon-neutral production loom designed and built in Newcastle, UK, that works by the power of a bicycle chain. These looms are predominantly used in the Harris Tweed industry, but there are a few intrepid weavers who are exploring their potential for weaving fabrics other than tweed. Skye Weavers is perhaps the most advanced, having adapted their pedal looms to produce blankets and scarves as well as tweed. I have recently started to pedal along in their inspiring wake!
